Our forests and natural resources make our part of Washington stunningly beautiful. Still, we must better prevent and suppress the deadly wildfires that ravage our forests and contaminate our air.

Wildfires cost lives and property and fill our skies with haze and toxins – especially harmful for children, our elders, and our workers. Wildfires have escalated in frequency and intensity in recent years, so we must step up our efforts to prevent them.

As Senator, I’ll work with the new head of the Department of Natural Resources to improve the health of our forests. Healthy forests will mean fewer and smaller wildfires – and cleaner air, even in communities far from the fires themselves. We must also work with the Canadian government as they battle wildfires that cause more haze to make their way to our state.
